I'm a new station owner. And like all other new owners I have poured hours and resources over my station. With all the competition, the challenges to attract listeners and other new business challenges the 3 month initial window means an owner would have to have a built-in audience on launch... Is there any possibility of stretching that initial milestone? It will be traumatizing to see all the hard work disappear.

It can be done. All you need in those first three months is greater than 12 hours of average daily listening. Between yourself and some friends, initially, you should be able to pull it off. Initially, I would recommend leveraging the Twitter autoposting available here (artists themselves as well as fans search on the titles of the songs played and this can build interest in your station), and advertise on Facebook. One such venue on Facebook is https://www.facebook.com/groups/radiono ... vertising/ . A good website helps, as well - a share of my listeners comes from this route alone.

Hello BigCat,

A bit of Search Engine Optimization goes a long way when people are looking for stations that play your kind of music. Include a signature with the url of your station (look at my signature, visit my website). Visit music blogs, contribute to them and include your 'signature' in your posts. Present a professional and clean image, reflective of your style of music.

Also, fill out your profile here ;-)

Good luck,
Luis

Thank you for your post!
I have 2 radio station running.
The first one is 4 months old and, after getting better and better it is now since two weeks with just one listener: me.
The station is
http://listen.radionomy.com/bynight
The second one is running since 3 weeks and has already 10-15 listeners pro day: that is a lot!
The two concept are pretty different, but I can't say if it is about the concept or for something else. Anyway, thank you for the topic.
Cheers,
Roberto

My soundtrack/showtunes station is nearing its end, and I could use all the help I can get. I've done SEO, FB advertising, and the likes, and Im nowhere near that 130 mark. Please and thank you.

Hello, I have noticed my station is in danger of being eliminated. I posted a small ad buy with facebook yesterday for my Halloween show and got up to 33 hours of audience streaming to help things.
I'm trying any and all avenues (without simply dumping alot of money into it) to try to keep my station alive. I play alot of experimental, jazz, rio, afrobeat, punk and hip hop. Get some!
