Hi all

I start this topic here because this community was the best I could ever belong to.
I hope that this can remain a place where all ex-radionomians can exchange ideas.

So what are you doing right now?

Me, just tried to stream live on Facebook and the second time in a row they blocked me after about 45 minutes.
I had to delete the post.
Has anyone experienced the same? Any ideas why they block?

Regards
Roc

Nothing right now. I may try Torontocast later this month.
One of the Radionomy mods uses it so it probably is legal.

No doubt it's because of licensing. It seems their agreement with licensing agencies is limited; not all artists are included. I've had some blocked, (Nat Cole - 'Unforgettable') but other artists went through with no problems. (Peter Nero - 'Wasn't the Summer Short')

I'm still out there with one radio station instead of three-to-five and just recently quit fully using Shoutcast (although I'm still using a lower level of service there as a 'reflector' to Torontocast).

Regarding Torontocast:
Until or unless other performing rights organizations (especially US-based ones) feel severely neglected, Torontocast is legal.
You just have to carefully identify your stream as Canadian and when you add your stream to directories, you need to set the origin as Toronto, Canada.
You cannot use your own web page for streaming, it is recommended to use a web page ending in 'torontocast.stream' so it is properly identified. With a certain, easily-locatable coupon code, the web page is free each month and instructions on how to set it up for your stream are also searchable on the web.
Otherwise, there is no geoblocking and no limitations on radio directory submissions.
It might take a bit more technical know-how and the interfaces on pretty much any service for programming a proper radio station's clockwheels (timings) are actually inferior to what Radionomy offered, but with enough outspoken Radionomy refugees out there, it might help spur innovation for other radio services.

Hi there,

I am working on a BoomBox Shared hosting from SoniXCast. I now have the free version, but it works once every two days. Not a big success.

The stream is in the SBN network and is hosted by SoniXCast, and therefore Socan licensed. That is fine.

Does somebody have experience with a paid version of the Boombox shared hosting?

I was at SonixCast two years ago with a Boombox shared hosting account. I can assure you that the Boombox is a real disaster. The Autodj does not work after an update and if it is not the autodj then it is something else that does not work.
If I then sent an email to their support department, I received an answer that was completely useless. In the long run, I was so tired of all those problems with their Boombox that I switched to TorontoCast.

Hi there,

Have taken a streaming host package at TorontoCast today. It works well.

Then I try the subdomain with the promo code, but I get a message that I must first have an active serves or hosting.

Regardless ... of whether it will work at a later time or in consultation with support, is this promotion for a month or permanent?

I requested to talk to someone at SonixCast about a new radio station yesterday and never received a response. I'm looking for more information about the BoomBox dedicated hosting. There's supposed to be a global license, a music library and other features. How does the library work? Do I download the songs and use them as I wish? Can I use my own songs? I didn't see anything about advertising to create revenue. Shoutcast uses targetspot for advertising. Does anyone have any experience with the BoomBox dedicated hosting?

I also noticed in SonixCast's Terms of Service that the Terms of Service is governed by the laws of New York, US, but SonixCast is located in Canada and I'm in the US. Doesn't make any sense.

Gary

Hi Gary,

I tried the share and no experience with dedicated.

I have tried the free version of Boombox shared. I do not recommend it because it works every other day. For autoDJ you have an ftp connection to place files on it. But you have 1Gb. to storage. That's for about 9 hours of music. The jingles do not play, have tried all the settings. For live use Icecast and that works. It is all a bit of a puzzle to adjust.

I recommend everyone to use TorontoCast now. A small dollar more expensive per month, but the certainty that you have a stream every day. Double the number of listeners and more disk space. And the jingels also work.

And with a promo code you can have a sub domain for free. Just browse the search engine to find out.

And... a verry quick support.

I am very grateful to the earlier writers in this topic.

Thank you for the information. I'll check on TorontoCast.
